New Ideas for Preparing Homogeneous Micrometer Capsules Using High-Voltage Electrospray Technology

With the improvement of people's living standards, the application demands of microcapsule technology in fields such as food, medicine and daily chemicals are increasing. Microcapsules refer to capsule-shaped carriers with diameters ranging from 1-1000 microns. They can be used to embed, protect and control the release of various active ingredients. However, traditional microcapsule preparation methods such as solvent volatilization and phase separation have problems like low efficiency and uneven particle size distribution. In recent years, high-voltage electrospray technology has provided new ideas for the preparation of homogeneous micron capsules.

High-voltage electrospray technology uses high-pressure gas to squeeze the solution through micron-sized nozzles and enables the liquid to be electrostatically atomized into stable micron-sized mist under the action of a strong electric field. This technology can directly control the spray particle size distribution to produce more uniform microcapsules. Compared with traditional methods, it has advantages such as high production efficiency, narrow particle size distribution, and controllable structure and morphology. At present, this technology has been successfully applied to the R&D and production of homogeneous microcapsules.

Recently, researchers have used high-voltage electrospray technology to prepare a variety of uniform micron capsules by precisely controlling nozzle parameters, flow rate and electric field strength, etc. The products include single-core microcapsules with a wide variety of shell materials, double-shell microcapsules, and multi-core microcapsules, with good encapsulation efficiency and controlled release performance. This provides a more convenient and efficient new approach for the preparation of microcapsule formulations, and also enables microcapsule technology to develop in a more precise and controllable direction.

Compared with other new microcapsule preparation technologies such as microfluidics and template polymerization, high-voltage electrospray technology has the advantages of simple operation and relatively low equipment investment, which makes large-scale production easier. With the deepening of related theoretical research and the continuous optimization of key technologies, high-voltage electrospray technology is expected to become one of the important means for microcapsule preparation.

In summary, high-voltage electrospray technology opens up new ideas for the preparation of uniform micron capsules with broad application prospects. But we also need to pay attention to reasonable experimental design and control of key process parameters to ensure high reproducibility and low batch-to-batch variability of the prepared microcapsules. This journal will continue to follow the latest developments of this technology and present more related technical reports to readers.
